Having accumulated more than 25 years of industry experience, her breadth of knowledge covers all aspects of magazine publishing – from editorial and features to online strategies and business development.
An experienced media specialist, writer and educator Mary runs her own consultancy, The Magazine Expert Ltd and has helped new and existing publishers develop strong value propositions.
Mary also has a fractional post as a Senior Lecturer at Bournemouth University. Her previous roles in Higher Education include Head of Features Journalism at Solent University.
In 2013 she published her first book, How To Launch A Magazine In This Digital Age, (Bloomsbury) and has since published two more texts – Business Strategies for Magazine Publishing (Routledge, 2018) and Writing Feature Articles (Routledge, 2019).
Mary still writes for a range of publications and is currently working on a PhD at Bournemouth University investigating servitization in specialist magazine publishing. Research and development interests include emerging business models, sustainable revenue streams and audience engagement.
